Global Warming

Our planet needs greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide. They trap some of the rays of the Sun and that gives us light and heat. The other rays then bounce off the Earth and into space. But the problem now is that too many greenhouse gases are being produced. The gases are trapping too much heat and warming up the surface of the Earth. Scientists call this Global Warming.

Global Warming is causing a lot of damage. One way it is damaging the Earth is that it is melting the icecaps, which, in turn, is also making the sea level rise. Scientists theorize that once the caps have fully melted, the Earth will be completely flooded.

Several animals can become extinct due to climate change caused by Global Warming. For example, the polar bear lives on the ice. Global Warming is slowly melting the icecaps where they live. Polar bears hunt on the ice. The Polar Bears ice melts in the warmer seasons. As the weather gets warmer sooner the polar bears have less time to hunt and often starve or drown going from one ice flow to the other.

How can we stop a disaster like this from striking? The excessive greenhouse gases are caused by pollution. If people walk or bike when possible, perhaps that would help lessen some carbon dioxide emissions. When driving is absolutely necessary, carpooling can be a solution. Trees take in carbon dioxide to survive. They can also help minimize greenhouse gases. But some products, such as paper, need to be made with trees. Recycling can help reduce the amount of trees that are cut down.

  If you have a old toilet take a milk carton (gallon sized) and fill it with rocks. Carefully place it in the body of the toilet making sure it dose not touch any other pipes. From now on every time you flush it will use 1 gallon less water.
